UNESCO CALLS FOR SAFETY OF JOURNALISTS IN NIGERIA
The United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, Centre against Brutality & for the Safety of Journalists in Africa are calling on the Nigeria government to ensure safety and freedom of journalists.
The concerned group made this known at the International Day to end impunity for crimes against journalists.
According to UNESCO, over 1000 journalists have been killed in a decade, in the line of duty.
As part of the efforts to end impunity against journalists, on December 18, 2013, the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution against threats, attacks, murder, torture, forced disappearance among others, which led to the declaration of November 2nd as International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists
